Catherine Spitzer

Voice Instructor

Soprano Catherine Ortega Spitzer began teaching voice in 2010 and is an
accomplished performer based in South Florida. She graduated with a B.M. in
Vocal Performance from the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL and
received both a M.M. in Voice Performance and Professional Diploma in Opera from the Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.

Catherine has performed with First Coast Opera, Little Opera Theatre of NY
(virtual), concerts with Vero Beach Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, the Sunrise Pops Orchestra, Miami Oratorio Society, and was a Young Artist with Chicago Opera Theater.

She has also sung with several professional ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Chorus, the Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, Lakeside Singers, and the Schola Cantorum at Holy Name Cathedral. She has performed numerous operatic roles and oratorios including Penelope Ann in Penelope Ann’s Revenge (World Premire), Mimì in La Bohème, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Fiordiligi in Così Fan Tutte, Handel’s Messiah, Carmina Burana, and Rutter’s Mass of the Children and Requiem.

Catherine taught lyric diction at Roosevelt University prior to moving back to south Florida and is currently adjunct voice faculty at the New World School of the Arts. She is thrilled to be back in her hometown teaching voice at the South Florida Conservatory of Music.
