A native of Moscow, Russia, Maria began formal vocal and piano studies at the age of six, having begun singing and playing piano since age three.
Ms.Mendez has studied in Russia and the United States from celebrated musicians in the classical and jazz genres, including Gabrielle Goodman and Leo Blanco, among others.
In 2011, Ms.Mendez graduated with a major in choral conducting from the prestigious Gnessin College of Music in Moscow.
Ms.Mendez has been performing for over two decades in the largest and prestigious concert halls around the world. In 1996, she was also selected to record the song for the large Russian radio station on the occasion of the election of a President. At 8 years old, she was invited to perform at the renowned Russian TV show, The Morning Star, which identifies exceptional young talent.She was chosen to perform at The Voice Russia, X-Factor Russia (background vocalist), and KVN Russian TV comedy series. Ms.Mendez has performed frequently at large festivals including International Festival "Five Stars" and as background vocalist for some of the largest Russian pop stars.
Ms.Mendez complemented her international performances with a busy teaching schedule over the past 16 years. More than a thousand successful students, many of whom continued their studies at higher music institutions.
After a successful career in Moscow, Ms.Mendez pursued advanced studies in the United States at Berklee College of Music. During those years of the studies, she performs as a soloist and pianist of the American band Capitan Wolf Band and continues to teach music.
In recent years, Ms.Mendez has been working on an original project, Malhavia. That is an author's project based on the synthesis of different musical genres with a recognizable handwriting of the artist. The author and performer of all her songs works in the style of soul, R'n'B, neo-soul, hip-hop, classical, pop, indie, folk.
